Introduction

In this installment of our series on territorial disputes worldwide, we delve into one of the most longstanding and contentious conflicts in recent history – the Kashmir conflict between India and Pakistan. The dispute over the region of Kashmir has been a source of tension between the two nuclear-armed neighbors for decades, with both countries claiming sovereignty over the region. This post will explore the history, causes, and current status of the Kashmir conflict.

Background

Kashmir is a region located in the northern part of the Indian subcontinent, bordered by India, Pakistan, and China. The region has a complex history, with various rulers and empires controlling parts of the region over the centuries. In 1947, when India and Pakistan gained independence from British rule, the region of Kashmir became a point of contention between the two newly formed countries.
