The current state of affairs regarding the battle for control of the House of Representatives

In an unprecedented move on Tuesday, the House voted to remove Kevin McCarthy from the position of Speaker of the House. This historic decision, which left the chamber leaderless, created a state of chaos within the House.

The vote, with a count of 216 to 210, saw Democrats aligning with a faction of hard-line Republicans to strip Kevin McCarthy, a California Republican, of his role as the Speaker. This event underscored the deep divisions within the Republican Party that had been festering throughout the year.

It marked the culmination of a long power struggle between McCarthy and members of the far-right faction who had initially opposed his ascension to the speakership in January.
